The Environmental Department of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly recently organized a comprehensive Food Hygiene and Safety Orientation aimed at enhancing the health standards of all food vendors and handlers within the municipality. Recognizing the vital role that food safety plays in public health, the department emphasized the importance of implementing proper hygiene practices to prevent the spread of transmissible diseases and ensure the safety of the community.

During the session, vendors and handlers were educated on key topics such as the risks associated with contaminated food, the significance of purchasing fresh and quality foodstuffs, and maintaining a clean environment in their vending and preparation areas. Special attention was given to personal hygiene practices, including the correct washing of hands before, during, and after food preparation, the importance of wearing appropriate attire such as caps and aprons, and keeping their clothes clean and free of contaminants. Participants were also advised to keep their fingernails short and clean to prevent bacterial transfer. This initiative underscores the municipality’s commitment to promoting safe food handling practices, safeguarding public health, and improving the overall hygiene standards of food vendors across Old Tafo. It is hoped that through this orientation, vendors will adopt better hygiene habits, thereby reducing health risks and fostering a healthier community.
