On the 31st January, 2023 the department of Social Welfare and Community Development (Old Tafo Municipal) received a call from the Tafo Government Hospital concerning a neglected baby at the hospital labor ward. The department followed up to the said hospital to ascertained that the truth of the matter.
The Department found out that, the she was a preterm baby of 28 gestation weeks who was born alive but the mother refused to take the baby home with her.
There was a need to transfer the baby to KATH MBU for proper medical care since she was preterm. The baby was put on oxygen and recorded 28% oxygen when she was admitted at the MBU but passed away the following morning. The department interview with the mother revealed that she reported at Tafo Gov’t Hospital after she started bleeding due to some herbal medications she had taken. She was delivered of her baby the next day but refused to take child because she was traveling to the United States of America on 3rd February,2023.
