2ND INAUGURAL SESSION

The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly was inaugurated on Thursday 23rd January, 2020 at the Tafo Methodist Conference Hall. The newly elected Assembly Members were sworn into Office to begin work to the development of the Municipality. In attendance were Chiefs, Government Officials, Heads of Department’s/Unit and the general public. The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Fred Obeng Owusu in his welcome address was of the belief that, the Assembly Members would endorse Peace and Unity which he stressed was a hallmark in their quest to develop the Municipality. The Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr. Ahomka Lindsay on behalf of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo inaugurated the twenty-four (24) member Old Tafo Municipal Assembly. Mr. Ahomka Lindsay whilst reading President Akuffo Addo’s address appealed to the Assembly to ensure compliance with building rules and regulations on the zoning and development of land and ensure the Lands were developed according to approved plans to avoid flooding and its accompanying loss of lives and properties. The Municipal Assembly is made up of sixteen (16) elected Members and eight (8) government appointees. Mr. Lindsay stressed that good governance entails active participatory of the citizenry to improve infrastructure and good leadership. The Assembly Members elected a 37 – year old tutor of Effiduase Senior High School, Hon. Richard Appiah as the Presiding Member for the Assembly. Under the supervision of the Electoral Commission.There were two other Contestants, Mr., Ernest Owusu and Usman Mustapha. In the first round of voting, Appiah had fourteen (14) votes whilst Owusu and Mustapha got Six (6) and Five (5) respectively. The two (2) realizing they could not make any significant impact withdrew and allowed Appiah to go unopposed, where all twenty-four (24) Members voted ‘Yes’ A Kumasi High Court Judge Justice George Krofa Addae sworn the Assembly Members into Office.
