OLD TAFO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY HELD AN ELECTION OF A PRESIDING MEMBER ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH 2026, AT THE OLD TAFO MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE HALL.
The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly on Thursday, September 17, 2026, held an election to select a Presiding Member at the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly Hall, with Assembly Members urged to uphold peace, order and the established procedures governing the electoral process. In a welcome address, the Municipal Coordinating Director called on members to conduct themselves peacefully and responsibly throughout the exercise, stressing the need for strict adherence to the laid-down procedures to ensure a smooth, transparent and credible election. He welcomed the Assembly Members and other participants to the election and encouraged them to discharge their responsibilities in accordance with the relevant rules and regulations.
The election brought together key officials and stakeholders of the Old Tafo Municipality, including the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Sadiq Abubakar, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Municipal Heads of Departments and Units, Honorable Assembly Members and Government Appointees and also security personnel. The exercise was conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission, with the procedures followed throughout the process to ensure an orderly and credible election.
The election was conducted via a secret ballot system to ensure transparency, order, and fairness. A total of twenty-five (25) eligible voters cast their ballots, comprising: • Sixteen (16) Elected Assembly Members • Nine (9) Appointed Government/Committee Members Hon. Ernest Owusu stood as the sole candidate for the position, with his nomination formally approved by Hon. Mustapha Osman and Hon. Frank Amoako, respectively. After the cast of ballots, the Electoral Commission proceeded to count and verify the votes in accordance with the electoral procedure. The results showed overwhelming support for the sole candidate, with Hon. Ernest Owusu receiving all 25 votes cast. He therefore obtained 25 out of 25 votes, representing a 100 percent vote from the members who participated in the election.
The result was subsequently announced by the Electoral Commission representative, Cynthia Adwubi Sarfo, who formally declared Hon. Ernest Owusu duly elected as the Presiding Member of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly. Following the declaration of the results, the Oath of Office and Secrecy was officially administered to Hon. Ernest Owusu by His Honor Festus Fovi Nukunu.
As Presiding Member, Hon. Ernest Owusu is expected to play an important role in presiding over meetings and deliberations of the Assembly and in supporting the Assembly in the performance of its legislative and deliberative functions. His election also places him at the center of the Assembly’s proceedings, working with the Municipal Chief Executive, Assembly Members, management and other stakeholders in advancing the work of the Municipality. The successful completion of the election and swearing-in ceremony was seen as an important step in strengthening the leadership structure of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly. The presence of the Municipal Chief Executive, Municipal Coordinating Director, Heads of Departments and Units, Assembly Members and Government Appointees underscored the importance attached to the election and the new office holder.
With the election concluded and the oath administered, Hon. Ernest Owusu officially begins his tenure as Presiding Member of the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly, following a unanimous mandate of 25 votes from the members who participated in the election.
