SANITATION EXERCISE HELD IN ADOMPOM AND SANTAI ELECTORAL AREAS TO PROMOTE ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANLINESS.
On 5th September 2026, the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly organized a sanitation exercise within the Adompom and Santai Electoral Areas as part of efforts to promote environmental cleanliness, improve public health and support the Clean Ghana Agenda initiated by the President of Ghana. The exercise was aimed at encouraging residents to take collective responsibility for keeping their communities clean and maintaining a healthy and safe environment.
The exercise brought together community members, shop owners, traders, local leaders and other stakeholders who participated in cleaning activities within the two electoral areas. The exercise focused on the removal of refuse and other unwanted materials from public spaces, roadsides, gutters and other areas within the communities. It also served as an opportunity to sensitize residents on the importance of proper waste disposal and regular participation in communal sanitation activities. Speaking during the exercise, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Sadiq Abubakar, emphasized the need for residents to actively participate in sanitation exercises whenever they are organized. He noted that maintaining a clean environment should not be the sole responsibility of the Municipal Assembly, but rather a collective responsibility that requires the commitment and cooperation of every member of the community. The MCE further explained that a clean environment contributes significantly to the health and well-being of residents, while also helping to prevent the spread of diseases and improve the general appearance of the municipality. He therefore encouraged residents to develop good sanitation habits and ensure that waste is properly disposed of at designated places.
Hon. Sadiq Abubakar also cautioned shop owners, traders and sellers who fail to participate in communal clean-up exercises. He stated that appropriate measures would be taken against individuals who deliberately refuse to comply with the sanitation exercise, including the imposition of fines and the possible closure of their shops in accordance with the Assembly's sanitation regulations. He urged business owners to see their participation not only as an obligation but also as a contribution towards improving the community in which they operate.
The MCE further called on community leaders, elders and opinion leaders to play an active role in educating and encouraging the youth and other residents to participate in sanitation activities. He stressed that the involvement of traditional leaders and other influential members of the community would help to promote discipline, responsibility and sustained commitment to environmental cleanliness. The exercise also highlighted the importance of continuous public education on sanitation. Residents were encouraged to avoid indiscriminate disposal of refuse, keep their surroundings clean and support initiatives introduced by the Municipal Assembly to improve sanitation within the municipality.
In his final remarks, the MCE expressed appreciation to all residents, community leaders, traders and other stakeholders who participated in the exercise. He encouraged them to maintain the cleanliness achieved beyond the exercise and to make proper sanitation a regular part of their daily activities. The sanitation exercise organized by the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly in the Adompom and Santai Electoral Areas demonstrated the importance of community participation in promoting a clean and healthy environment. The success of such initiatives depends largely on the willingness of residents to take responsibility for their surroundings and cooperate with the Assembly. Sustained collaboration between the Assembly, community leaders, businesses and residents will therefore be essential in achieving the objectives of the Clean Ghana Agenda and creating a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable municipality.
