THE COMMISSION OF CEREMONY OF DEVELOPEMENTAL PROJECTS IN OLD TAFO MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY.
The Old Tafo Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service commissioned a new Municipal Education Office and a number of educational facilities in the municipality, with authorities calling for greater stakeholder responsibility to ensure that the investment translates into improved teaching, learning and Academic performance.
The commissioning ceremony was held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at the Rockanje Presby Experimental School, brought together the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Sadiq Abubakar, Municipal Coordinating Director, traditional leaders, leaders of the zongo community, Municipal assembly members, NDC council members, Municipal heads of departments and units, Education Directorate, heads of beneficiary schools, teachers, parents and learners.
In address at the ceremony, the Education Directorate Madam Betty Drah said the new facilities had become a necessary due to the growing population of learners and increasing pressure on the existing school infrastructure. According to Madam Drah, overcrowding in some schools had created difficulties for classroom management, effective supervision and the delivery of quality instruction. The beneficiary schools included Pankrono R/C Kindergarten, Rockanje Presby Experimental Primary School, Badriya Islamic JHS and Uthmania JHS. The project funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), are expected to provide much- needed relief to schools struggling with inadequate classroom space. Beyond the construction of classrooms and office facilities, the Education Directorate disclosed that furniture had also been supplied to beneficiary schools. The furniture package includes 410 tables and chairs and 40 hexagonal tables and chairs for kindergarten pupils, providing a total of 650 seating spaces for learners. Madam Betty Drah believes the intervention will create a more conducive environment for teaching and learning while enabling teachers to manage their classrooms more effectively. She expressed optimism that the additional infrastructure would contribute to improved school attendance, stronger classroom participation, enhanced supervision and better academic performance.
The Directorate commended the government for its continued investment in education and praised the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly for recognizing the urgent infrastructure needs of schools within the municipality. Speaking at the ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive Hon Sadiq Abubakar stated that the commissioning of the facilities should not be viewed merely as a ceremony but as evidence of what could be achieved when public resources were properly prioritized and prudently utilized. He said the projects formed part of the Assembly’s broader development agenda, which places strong emphasis on education, healthcare, water, sanitation, governance and local economic development. The MCE disclosed that the Assembly had prioritized infrastructure development under the District Assemblies Common fund, with 80 percent of the fund allocated to infrastructure development. He emphasized that, the Assembly’s objective was to ensure that the government policies and public resources were translated into practical interventions capable of improving the daily lives of residents. The education facilities formed part of five major development projects commissioned by the Assembly. They included a six-unit classroom block with office and store at Tafo Rockjanje Presby Primary School, Tafo Mile 3, a 3-unit classroom block at Islamic Badriya JHS at Baba Chibsa, and two-unit kindergarten with washroom, office and store at Pankrono R/C Primary School. Also commissioned were a one storey, two -bedroom semi- detached medical officers.
Hon Sadiq Abubakar said the projects represented important investments in the municipality’s children, healthcare delivery and institutional capacity. He stressed that education remained one of the Assembly’s key priorities, particularly the provision of classroom blocks and early-childhood facilities. In notable declaration, Hon Sadiq Abubakar said the Assembly would continue to pursue viable projects inherited from previous administrations. He argued that development projects should not be abandoned merely because they were initiated under the previous administration. He also assured the gathering that the Assembly would strengthen project monitoring and supervision to ensure that contractors compiled with approved specifications, quality standards and agreed timelines.
The MCE further urged beneficiaries of the projects to take ownership of the facilities and protect them from vandalism, misuse and neglect. He said the Assembly’s development agenda would continue to focus on education and healthcare infrastructure, potable water, sanitation, local economic development, municipal infrastructure and institutional capacity. The commissioning ceremony therefore marked more than the opening of new classrooms and offices. It highlighted a broader development push by the Old Tafo Municipal Assembly to close infrastructure gaps while improving the quality of services delivered to residents.
In the closing of the ceremony, the Education Directorate’s central message was clear: new buildings alone cannot transform education. They must be matched with effective teaching, responsible supervision, community ownership and protection of school infrastructure. The Municipal Chief Executive similarly maintained that today’s projects should inspire the Assembly to do more rather than signal the end of its development journey.
With new educational facilities, healthcare infrastructure, water projects, sanitation interventions and economic projects either completed or underway, Old Tafo is seeking to turn public investment into tangible improvements in the lives of its people. The commissioning marks a significant step in Old Tafo’s development journey. With continued commitment, proper maintenance and strong community support, these investments can create a lasting benefit for education, healthcare and wider municipality.
